Multi Million Pound Speculative Development at Birch Coppice
Thursday 27th September 2007
A huge
distribution unit covering an area of almost seven football pitches under
construction at Birch
Coppice Business
Park takes the built
environment of phase one to over 1.8 million sq ft (167,220 m2) with only three
development plots remaining available.
This latest
investment of around £11.8 million is in two speculative built industrial
schemes of 256,000 sq ft (23,782m2) and 55,000 sq ft (5,109 m2) of high quality
specification at the 400 acre (161 ha) site which sits alongside junction 10 of
the M42 motorway near Tamworth.
The larger of the
two units has 20 dock levellers and four level access service doors; a service
area with 78 ft (24m) turning circle
and parking for up to 250 car and up to
27 HGV’’s. Office accommodation is 3,000
sq ft (278 m2) and 12,000 sq ft (1,114 m2) respectively. Specification
of both units includes the facility of a drivers amenity block.
Earlier this year
the former coal mining community of Dordon celebrated with the news that the
business park resulting from the regeneration of Birch Coppice colliery site
had created more jobs than were originally employed at the mine which closed in
1987. In the peak of coal production Birch Coppice employed a workforce of
1,000 of which 780 worked underground.
The Birch Coppice
of today which shows little of its former brown field heritage is home to
several leading logistics companies such UPS, and CVA (formerly TNT).
Roadways Container
Logistics handles eight container freight trains per day through Birmingham Intermodal Freight Terminal
(BIFT) which opened for deep sea container traffic from Southampton and
Thamesport docks last year.
Birmingham based
property agents Eagleton and Company is
marketing the 55,000 sq ft unit at £6.25 per sq ft which is due for completion
in October this year and the 256,000 sq
ft unit due for completion in March 2008 at £5.75 per sq ft.
